Storage Tips & Tricks

Here are some helpful suggestions to keep your valuables and keepsakes stored safely in our state-of-the-art storage property. For additional information visit our store or call to speak with our friendly Professional Storage Consultants.

  •  Inspect your storage. The unit should be clean with a door in good working order.
  •  Use quality storage supplies that can be purchased in our store.
  •  Place those items that you may need to get to in front. Allow for walking space between items.
  •  Completely fill each box. Put your heaviest items on the bottom and the lighter items on top.
  •  Try to keep your boxes of uniform sizes, so they many be stacked easier.
  •  Label all boxes for easy identification. List the contents in the boxes on all four sides and seal the boxes with good quality packing supplies like tape.
  •  Drain all gas oil from engines in lawn and garden equipment, jet skis, snowmobiles, power tools, etc.
  •  Leave a small space between the wall and your storage items to allow for ventilation.
  •  Pack your boxes and other items as close together as possible to avoid moisture accumulating between them. Make sure your boxes are strong enough to hold your items.
  •  Make an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place.
  •  Insure your goods. The goods that you place in storage are solely your responsibility. We will provide you with information on very affordable insurance when you sign your lease agreement or you can go to Insure Your Goods for more information.
  •  Dishes and Glassware should be individually wrapped in packing paper and placed in a dish pack box. Again place these items on the top.
  •  Use 2″ X 4″ boards or a sheet of Vis-Queen underneath your storage items to guard against moisture. Concrete floors may become cold and damp.
  •  CAUTION: It is against the law to store materials that are HAZARDOUS or COMBUSTIBLE, such as gas, solvents, paint, etc.
  •  Pictures and Mirrors should be wrapped in mirror crates and marked “Fragile” and stacked on end.
  •  Furniture with drawers can be used as storage space for knickknacks, china, silverware and small items. Wrap these items in paper, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.
  •  Larger Appliances make excellent packing cases for linen and clothing.
  •  Shovels, rakes, hoes and water hoses can be stored in an empty trash can. Stack extra trash cans inside one another.
  •  Remove the legs from tables if possible to save space.
  •  Sofas, Couches, Sleepers, and Loveseats should be covered with a waterproof cover and stored on end. Remove cushions, cover in plastic and store on top.
  •  Upholstered furniture items need a cover to protect from dust and moisture.
  •  When storing mattresses on end, make sure they are firmly braced to stand up straight to prevent them from bending out of shape and becoming “Lumpy”.
  •  Pack books flat to protect their spines. Documents should be packed flat. If documents are in file folders and need to be packed on edge pack the box full to prevent bending. Boxes of books and documents should be placed on pallets or shelves to prevent moisture absorption.
